These gunnery trials and exercises followed her repair due to a torpedo strike in her bow by an Italian warplane on September 27th 1941, between Sardinia and Tunisia in the Mediterranean. This had occurred while she was escorting a Malta resupply convoy from Gibraltar as part of Operation Halberd.
